South of England

South of England
Lively seaside towns, delightful countryside and iconic heritage sites amidst England’s sunniest and warmest climate, there’s so much to see and do whilst staying at one of our caravan parks or holiday parks in the South of England. Read More...

Here’s our guide to the Top Ten Things To Do whilst on one of our caravan holidays in the South of England.

1. Go aboard the Victory
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is home to a number of celebrated ships including Lord Nelson’s flagship, HMS Victory, Queen Victoria’s battleship HMS Warrior and Henry Vlll’s Mary Rose.

2. Explore the New Forest by bike
In addition to the miles of country roads, there are over 100 miles of cycle routes through the ancient woodlands and across open heathlands, with stunning views of purple heather, golden flowering gorse as well as the famous New Forest ponies and their foals.

3. Get a close up view of the Needles
For a close up view of the dramatic Needles Rocks and Lighthouse, at the western end of the Isle of Wight, take a pleasure boat for a dramatic trip around the rocks and lighthouse and panoramic views of Alum Bay sand cliffs.

4. Walk along the White Cliffs
A cliff-top walk from Dover to Deal takes in the South Foreland Lighthouse, the secluded cove and lovely seaside village St Margarets (starting point for cross-Channel swimmers) and at Kingsdown access via steps down the cliff.

5. Sail back in time at Chatham Dockyard
One of the world’s most complete dockyards from the Age of Sail and one of Britain’s leading maritime heritage destinations, Chatham Dockyard in Kent has a remarkable range of museum galleries, iconic buildings and historic warships to explore.

6. Ride the Watercress Line
Travel through ten miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside on one of the lovingly restored trains and enjoy the sounds, smells and magic of steam travel from a bygone age.

7. Taste the famous Whitstable oysters
Whitstable is famous for its oysters, which have been collected in this area of Kent since at least Roman times. There are plenty of places in the town to try them, accompanied perhaps by a glass of white wine or Guinness. Plus, a week-long oyster festival is celebrated every July.

8. Take a stroll on Brighton Pier
Brighton Pier is one of Britain’s most famous coastal landmarks. Take a stroll – for free – whatever the weather, go on the rides, play the slot machines or enjoy some traditional fish and chips.

9. Raise a glass at one of many vineyards
Sussex boasts more than ten vineyards, thanks to the chalky soil and relatively sunny climate. Many have produced award-winning wines that in blind-taste tests have been judged as good as, and even better than some of their French equivalents. Many welcome visitors and offer tours as well as tastings.

10. See Harold get shot in the eye
Visit Battle Abbey in Sussex for the annual re-enactment of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. It takes place on the very fields where one of the most famous conflicts in English history took place when William defeated King Harold.
