Cambridgeshire

Exploring quiet Fen country by boat, bike or on foot and one of Britain’s most beautiful cities, there’s so much to see and do whilst staying at one of our caravan parks or holiday parks in Cambridgeshire. Read More...

Here’s our guide to the Top Ten Things To Do whilst on one of our caravan holidays in Cambridgeshire.

1. Punt on the Cam
What could be finer than punting along the River Cam on a lovely sunny day? It is an image often associated with Cambridge – lazy summer days, champagne picnics, men in straw boaters. Punt along the Backs (the backs of some of the older Cambridge colleges) taking in the stunning architecture of the ancient buildings.

2. Cycle the Fens
The flat Cambridgeshire Fenlands are perfect for relaxing bike rides. There are many waymarked routes and themed trails to follow including the Apple and Ale ride around Wisbech, the capital of the Fens. This passes waterways, ancient sea banks and tiny Fenland villages, which are surrounded by hundreds of acres of orchards as well as Elgoods Brewery, where tours are available.

3. Set sail on the Great Ouse
Huntingdon sits on the prettiest stretch of the Great Ouse, England’s fourth longest river. Once an important navigation route, the river can now be enjoyed by hiring a boat from one of several small boatyards in Huntingdon.

4. Cruise around the Ship of the Fens
Dominating the skyline, Ely cathedral is one of England’s most beautiful and largest. This imposing structure towers across the fens for miles around. Known locally as the ‘Ship of the Fens’, it can be viewed whilst taking a cruise on the Great Ouse River, either a short tour or a longer voyage to Cambridge.

5. Get active at Grafham Water
Grafham Water offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. There is a 10-mile cycle track around the shoreline as well as several water sports activities including sailing, windsurfing and fishing.

6. Take an unforgettable journey through the history of aviation
Located in the well-preserved Battle of Britain airfield, the award-winning Imperial War Museum Duxford is home to a unique collection of over 200 aircraft, including iconic Concorde and Spitfire. Duxford is a vibrant museum that marries its past with modern displays, interactive exhibitions, family events and attractions.

7. See the highlights of Cambridge
Take an open-top bus tour to see one of the most beautiful cities in Britain and one of England’s two great seats of learning full of history, tradition and magnificent university architecture.

8. Walk along the banks of the Cam
Enjoy a delightful riverside walk along the banks of the River Cam between the historic city of Cambridge and the picture-postcard neighbouring village of Grantchester. Indulge in a cream tea underneath the blossoming fruit trees at the Orchard Tea Garden, renowned for its famous past visitors, before retracing your steps.

9. Take to the skies over Cambridgeshire
Take to the skies for a bird’s eye view of Cambridgeshire with a difference. Don the leather flying jacket, goggles and helmet then take the controls of a 1930s Tiger Moth for a nostalgic flying experience.

10. Head into a wetland wilderness
Wicken Fen, The National Trust’s oldest nature reserve and one of Europe’s most important wetlands, supports an abundance of wildlife. A remnant of the once massive Cambridgeshire Fens, it preserves a true sense of wetland wilderness. Standing in the middle of the reserve, nothing is visible other than wild habitats of fen, water and woodland. The wetland has played an important role in the social and economic life of the area. It provided materials for thatching local houses, bedding and feed for animals, and peat for fuel.
