2. Take in the breathtaking views from the top of the Spinnaker Tower

Britain’s second tallest publicly-accessible building, at 170 metres high, it offers an excellent vantage point over Portsmouth, The Solent and across to the Isle of Wight.

3. Ride the Watercress Line

Travel through ten miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside on one of the lovingly restored trains and enjoy the sounds, smells and magic of steam travel from a bygone age.

4. Go aboard the Victory

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is home to a number of celebrated ships including Lord Nelson’s flagship, HMS Victory, Queen Victoria’s battleship HMS Warrior and Henry Vlll’s Mary Rose.

5. Catch a ferry over to the Isle of Wight

Only minutes from the mainland by ferry the Isle of Wight has a magic all its own, with visitors remarking that it is reminiscent of England a generation or more ago.

6. See the Big Guns at Fort Nelson

The recently redeveloped Fort Nelson is home to the Royal Armouries national collection of artillery, the Big Guns. This unique Victorian fort has been transformed into a museum for the 21st century, and offers free entry.

7. Taste some quality English wines

In the heart of beautiful Hampshire countryside Wickham Vineyard is one of the country’s leading wine producers. There is free tasting as well as guided tours explaining the wine-making process.

8. Step back in time at Buckler’s Hard

Learn what it was like to live and work in an 18th-century shipbuilding village on the banks of the Beaulieu River in the New Forest. Visit the Maritime Museum or take a cruise on the river.

9. Discover the colourful gardens of Exbury

Superb at any time of the year, these colourful gardens can be explored on foot, by chauffeur-driven buggy or travel on the narrow-gauge steam railway – a really fun way to see the huge diversity of trees, shrubs and plants.

10. Explore the New Forest by bike

In addition to the miles of country roads, there are over 100 miles of cycle routes through the ancient woodlands and across open heathlands, with stunning views of purple heather, golden flowering gorse as well as the famous New Forest ponies and their foals.
